Christoph Greschitz Edit:
Today, I tried to create a new Observing List using 'Planner'. A couple of seconds after I typed at 'Make into Observing List', SkySafari closed itself. When I restarted it, there was a new Observing List with 400 objects instead of 4600. Experimenting with different search criteria, this happened evertime I tried to make more than 400 objects into an Observing List.Could uninstalling and reinstalling help? I haven't done it so far, for fear something might go wrong.

Keiron Smith Christoph,
Observing lists with 4600 objects is not a practical use case. 400 is the maximum.
Thanks!

Christoph Greschitz Keiron,
So far it was possible to make up to 10,000 objects in an Observing List without any problems, but something has changed.
I don't know how I am supposed to work with Observing Lists with only 400 objects. These Observing Lists are the result from highlighting the observable objects in one constellation. Further splits would be highly impractical.Christoph

Chris 400 seems low to me as a limit. I have three observing lists currently over 400, although I agree that many thousands is probably unreasonable.

Christoph Greschitz Chris,
The vast majority of objects I currently observe range from 13th to high 16th Magnitude. Having them in a Observing List allows me to see which galaxies are observable and which are not. I preview them at home to remove objects that are to faint and note if and where there are faint foreground stars that could be confused with the galaxy. Moreover, galaxies I have already seen are not highlighted.Until yesterday it was possible to make more than 400 objects into an Observing List but apparently something changed.

Christoph Greschitz Edit:
Today, I de- and reinstalled SkySafari. After logging in on LiveSky all Observing Lists were downloaded automatically. I got a slight shock, since only the first 400 objects of each Observing List were available, but it was possible to download those Observing Lists one by one from LiveSky. The downside is that the uncomlete Observing Lists with 400 objects get inserted every time SkySafari synchronises. My Observations and Sessions are still missing, and I hope that they will eventually appear automatically. I really don't feel like downloading 2,000 Observations and 150 Sessions manually.
Anyways, the good news is that I can now create Observing Lists with up to 10,000 objects!
I guess you can mark this Question/Problem as answered, although it is still unclear to me what exactly caused my issues.Christoph

Christoph Greschitz Four days passed by and my observations are still missing.
I tried waiting for up to an hour with Sky safari activated, stopping and starting the app, starting with and without Internet, restarting my device, checking off "Backup My Data To Cloud Storage", not checking it off, and I started the app a few times a day until now but to no avail.
Looking at LiveSky, my observations still show up, as do the sessions, but it won't synchronise. Is there any chance that they will turn up in a few days? Should I de- and reinstall SkySafari? Yesterday I already added a new Observation, hoping it won't overwrite the other observations, but so far, nothing happened to the LiveSky Data. LiveSky doesn't offer an option to download Observations into SkySafari, so this is out of Question too.
PS,
in my initial post, I mentioned that I need to wait some time, before SkySafari stops freezing. This time is cut in half, so apparently my observations played a role in increasing this time too.Christoph

Jeffrey Wiemeri Keiron: Regarding your comment:
"Christoph,

Thanks!"
The 400 maximum limit is WAY too limited. Multiple highly used & downloaded lists, eg The Orion Deep Map 600 DSOs, Pensack 500, DeepMap 600 Double Stars, etc. all have over 400 objects. With the 400 limit there is now no way (unless painstakingly manually) to, for example, quickly download and combine Messier, Caldwell, Deep Map 600 DSOs and Best Double Stars into what would be a very reasonable "all best objects" observing list and upload it. A few months ago, lists over 400 were not a problem, now they are. If you need more server space, fine, say with "Premium" you get larger lists, and I would pay for that. Limiting lists to 400 make SkySafari and LiveSky much less useful.
Note: I feel fortunate that I created my "Top 1000" lists prior to you implementing this new rule.

Christoph Greschitz Thank You Jeff!
Apparently the 400 limit is only an issue if you deinstall SS6 but you can still create large lists and download them manually. What remains after de-and reinstallation are undeletable Observing Lists with 400 objects and no observations at all.

Kyle Hendicks Hello Everyone,
Let me shed some light on this topic. We are currently going through the Observing List functionality and making improvements and optimizations.
Technically, Observing Lists do not have an upper limit but working with lists with over 400 objects is not optimized and will take noticeably longer when loading, exporting, etc. We recognize that larger lists are important to our users and are working to make this process much more efficient. Updates are actively being developed and will be coming soon.

Jeffrey Wiemeri Thanks Kyle for that comment. I am very appreciative of all SkySafari and Live Sky have done for our hobby. All was great until just recently, when Live Sky would only display (and download/email) 400 objects from our observing lists. Please correct soonest! Thanks!!

Jeffrey Wiemeri I will add that re: "working with lists with over 400 objects is not optimized and will take noticeably longer when loading, exporting, etc." I have been waiting for tens of minutes on Live Sky, list is never going over 400.
