Beta Testing SkySafari 7 (iOS Only) - Read This To Participate!

Invitation to iOS Users:

Everyone here in the Community Forums (with an Apple iOS device) is invited to participate in the beta-testing cycle :)

Your beta-testing feedback, whatever you can contribute, will be invaluable to the success of SkySafari 7!

How to Apply:

Please reply here (in a comment below) if you can help us at this time.  Please outline your experience with SkySafari, including what versions of SkySafari you have run previously, what telescopes you are controlling, what kind of astronomy you are involved in, if you are a power user, etc.  Please do not post requests to join the SS7 beta in other forums, as they will not be accepted.  If you're reading this you can reply here.

When you are officially invited to participate you will see and have access to the SN7 Beta Testing forum.  The SS7 Beta Testing forum is hidden until you are invited to participate.  When you are accepted, you will be notified via a TestFlight email and then you will be able to both view the SS7 beta forum and download the SS7 beta app.

Please note, not all applicants will be immediately included in the beta-testing.  So, if you apply and do not hear back please be patient.

*** If accepted to the SS7 beta-testing forum please do NOT report bug/issues on this post.  See below for workflow ***

The Process:

As you find bugs/issues in SkySafari 7 please first review the current discussions in this beta-testing forum (which is hidden until you are invited).  If your bug/issue has already been identified please comment on the existing post.  If your bug/issue has not been identified please create a NEW post in the SS7 Beta Testing forum.

For clarity regarding this bug reporting process please see the Example Bug Report (hidden until you are officially invited)

Please do not submit tickets with bugs/issues.

How To Follow The SS7 Beta Forum:

As part of your participation we would appreciate that you follow the SS7 Beta Testing forum.  Following a forum means you will receive email updates when anyone creates a NEW post or comments/replies to one of the existing posts. This is important for two reasons.

  1. Following the forum ensures you receive email updates regarding all admin communications to the beta testers.  If admins make a post asking for assistance you will get an email update with that post.
  2. Following is also very important so that you have an on-going status report regarding bugs/issues identified, confirmed, requiring further testing, or have been resolved, etc.  This will help you stay on top of the overall process, and ensure you are not duplicating efforts where issues are already known and resolved.

To FOLLOW the SkySafari 7 Beta Testing community forum please see here.  Note, you must have been invited first, and have access to the forum before you can follow it.

Replying to Email Updates:

When you follow the SS7 Beta Testing forum you will receive email updates regarding new posts (and comments, if opted for).  Please do not reply to email updates using the "Reply" function.  Please first use the "View the comment" link to open the community forum post, then reply to the post.

This point is crucially important - so please understand the image below (this an example of an SS7 Beta Testing email update as seen using my web browser Yahoo email account).

If you use the email update "Reply" function your reply will not be added to the community forum discussion.

TestFlight:

In order to participate you will need to have TestFlight installed on your iOS device(s).  You can download and install TestFlight from this link here:

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/testflight/id899247664?mt=8

Please...

  1. SIGN IN or create account on this Simulation Curriculum support website.
  2. REPLY to this post (in a comment below) in order to apply to the SS7 Beta Testing group.
  3. When invited to join the beta testing, download and install the iOS TESTFLIGHT app.
  4. FOLLOW the main SS7 beta forum to be kept up-to-date of any new posts (bug reports) and discussions thereafter (you get email updates).
  5. REVIEW previous beta testing discussions before posting your bug report.
  6. COMMENT on bugs already reported.
  7. Create NEW posts for bugs not yet reported.
  8. Follow the bug reporting GUIDELINES when reporting or commenting on bugs.
  9. Do NOT reply/comment to email updates.  Instead, VIEW the post first, then comment.
  10. Post any questions, about anything to do with the beta testing, in the beta forum.  We will reply to you there.

Thank YOU!

We are very excited about the up and coming release of SS7 and we're looking forward to working closely with everyone involved in the beta testing.

Again, this is only for Apple iOS devices, at this time.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Hi Keiron,

I still miss the CCD Field orientation setting so that the Frames are always shows the orientation as I have set in the Teleskope setup. Still the Frames  in the Local view is wrong. It looks there as if I have a Dobson Mount.

I received an invitation from Keiron Smith to participate in beta testing. I am using SS 7 Pro. I have been using SS from its earliest versions for education and observation aid. I don't currently use a telescope.

My Apple id is hepmusic@gmail.com, which is different from the email I use in this forum.

    Thank you

Sorry for the long delay since I was invited to join this beta test - somehow the emails got filed as junk.  I have installed TestFlight but it says I have no invitations.  Can you help?

I would like to join the beta test. I use an iPhone and an iPad, currently iPhone 12 and iPad Air 2.

i have been using SkySafari since SS4. My telescopes are both from SkyWatcher. One is controlled with the help of a SkyFi 3 unit, and the other is an AZ-GTi mount, controlled via SynScanLink.

    best regards,

Mark, Bruce, Christopher, Michael, John, Steen, Paul,

You should all now see and have access to the SS7 Beta Testing community forum here:

SkySafari 7 | Beta Testing (iOS)

And you should all have access to the latest SS7 Pro/Plus betas via TestFlight.

Please check your issues with the latest beta build available via TestFlight, and if your issue is not resolved please reply to the current community forum post that is discussing your issue, providing the following info (and please include this with every subsequent reply as well): app and version number, iOS version + device.

    Thanks!

I would like to participate in the SF 7 beta testing on IOS. I have been using SF for several years on both IOS and Android devices. I reported a problem with SF7 FoV not using the telescope mount type - GEM or Alt-Az - as it did with SF6. I use SF to plan astrophotography sessions using a CGE Pro GEM mount and an HD11 SCT.

Thanks for the opportunity to test the beta

I just get "Oops" when i click on the SkySafari 7 | Beta Testing (iOS).

I did load testflight on my iPad and have SS7 Beta running. (And sent in two screen shots which were actually problems with me not the app.)

I would be keen to test the SS7 for its ability to interface with the AsiAir Pro. I have an AZEQ6 mount with an 8”SCT and control this (via SS7 and AsiAirPro) with ipad Air 2020 running ipadOs 15.3. I also occasionally use an ipad mini using same software. Hopefully you can see this request!

    Hi Keiron,

I have found a new error in SkySafari: It belongs to the Space Web Telescope. The Telescopes launch day is set there with the 12/22/2021. But the start was 12/25/2021. So the dates and the positions are not correct.

    Hello!

Not sure if invites are still going out for this, but I've owned SS4, SS5 and last beta tested SS6 on iPhone 12 Pro Max. Used with Celestron Evo 9.25" SCT.

    Thanks!

    Hello iOS Beta Testers!

We can see many of you have installed the new version 7.1.0 via TestFlight, but we are not receiving many reports about any issues - what works, what doesn't and what would make it better?

7.1.0 introduces the NEW subscription model - read more here:

SkySafari Beta 7.1.0 Release Notes - Introducing SkySafari Premium Subscription (Please Test)

And, PLEASE let us know what you discover - good, bad or ugly!

We would like to release this version soon, provided we can get a strong GREENLIGHT from out beta-testing community first.

    Thank youuuuuu!

Albireo According to our Apple iOS TestFlight dashboard you have 7.0.3 installed?

Please install TestFlight, and look through your email inbox for an invitation from TestFlight to install the latest version of SS7 beta for iOS.

Everyone will have received the email already.

    Thank you!!

    Keiron,

I do not find an email to test and TestFlight does not find anything to test.  I’m on 7.0.3.

@Keiron Smith: I do indeed have 7.0.3 installed but like Bruce I don’t have a (current) TestFlight email for the 7.1 beta test.

Kerion, I just found the two testflight emails from early December and early January giving me access to the test software at those times. Unfortunately those loads are no longer available. I am sorry my email flagged those TestFlight messages as spam and I did not get a chance to participate in those tests.

I am moving over the next two weeks, but after that I will be able to spend time with this app testing.  Just as a quick refresh - I have spent a lot of time testing mobile apps for Sears in their iOS and Android team, and a longer time with Motorola testing and repairing software for many various devices including a lot of device and human interface issues. I have iOptron, Losmandy, and OnStep based telescope mounts that can be used for testing this software.  And I have both an iPadPro and several generations of Android devices.

    John
