Beta Testing SkySafari 7 (iOS Only) - Read This To Participate!

Invitation to iOS Users:

Everyone here in the Community Forums (with an Apple iOS device) is invited to participate in the beta-testing cycle :)

Your beta-testing feedback, whatever you can contribute, will be invaluable to the success of SkySafari 7!

How to Apply:

Please reply here (in a comment below) if you can help us at this time.  Please outline your experience with SkySafari, including what versions of SkySafari you have run previously, what telescopes you are controlling, what kind of astronomy you are involved in, if you are a power user, etc.  Please do not post requests to join the SS7 beta in other forums, as they will not be accepted.  If you're reading this you can reply here.

When you are officially invited to participate you will see and have access to the SN7 Beta Testing forum.  The SS7 Beta Testing forum is hidden until you are invited to participate.  When you are accepted, you will be notified via a TestFlight email and then you will be able to both view the SS7 beta forum and download the SS7 beta app.

Please note, not all applicants will be immediately included in the beta-testing.  So, if you apply and do not hear back please be patient.

*** If accepted to the SS7 beta-testing forum please do NOT report bug/issues on this post.  See below for workflow ***

The Process:

As you find bugs/issues in SkySafari 7 please first review the current discussions in this beta-testing forum (which is hidden until you are invited).  If your bug/issue has already been identified please comment on the existing post.  If your bug/issue has not been identified please create a NEW post in the SS7 Beta Testing forum.

For clarity regarding this bug reporting process please see the Example Bug Report (hidden until you are officially invited)

Please do not submit tickets with bugs/issues.

How To Follow The SS7 Beta Forum:

As part of your participation we would appreciate that you follow the SS7 Beta Testing forum.  Following a forum means you will receive email updates when anyone creates a NEW post or comments/replies to one of the existing posts. This is important for two reasons.

  1. Following the forum ensures you receive email updates regarding all admin communications to the beta testers.  If admins make a post asking for assistance you will get an email update with that post.
  2. Following is also very important so that you have an on-going status report regarding bugs/issues identified, confirmed, requiring further testing, or have been resolved, etc.  This will help you stay on top of the overall process, and ensure you are not duplicating efforts where issues are already known and resolved.

To FOLLOW the SkySafari 7 Beta Testing community forum please see here.  Note, you must have been invited first, and have access to the forum before you can follow it.

Replying to Email Updates:

When you follow the SS7 Beta Testing forum you will receive email updates regarding new posts (and comments, if opted for).  Please do not reply to email updates using the "Reply" function.  Please first use the "View the comment" link to open the community forum post, then reply to the post.

This point is crucially important - so please understand the image below (this an example of an SS7 Beta Testing email update as seen using my web browser Yahoo email account).

If you use the email update "Reply" function your reply will not be added to the community forum discussion.

TestFlight:

In order to participate you will need to have TestFlight installed on your iOS device(s).  You can download and install TestFlight from this link here:

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/testflight/id899247664?mt=8

How to Use the Community Forums:

  4. FOLLOW the main SS7 beta forum to be kept up-to-date of any new posts (bug reports) and discussions thereafter (you get email updates).
  5. REVIEW previous beta testing discussions before posting your bug report.
  6. COMMENT on bugs already reported.
  7. Create NEW posts for bugs not yet reported.
  8. Follow the bug reporting GUIDELINES when reporting or commenting on bugs.
  9. Do NOT reply/comment to email updates.  Instead, VIEW the post first, then comment.

You should all now see and have access to the SS7 Beta Testing community forum here:

SkySafari 7 | Beta Testing (iOS)

If you can, please test INDI and any telescope control configurations, any mounts, etc, and let us know good or bad in the forum above.

We really need INDI testing and looks like your setup and experience lines up PERFECTLY!

    Hi,

I am interested in beta testing SS7. I am using several mounts and hardware (EQ6R, GEM28, Celestron CPC800, SkyFi, ASIair pro) with SkySafari 6Pro under iOS and android. I am doing visual observations and astrophotography as well. I hope, it is not to late to join the beta test.

    best regards

Hi. I started using SkySafari with 5, 5 Plus, and 5 Pro and now use SkySafari 6 Pro on various iPads. I have two AP rigs, a larger more capable SW AZ/EQ5 carrying a 150 Maksutov for Lunar/Planetary or an ED80 Frac for Nebulas and Galaxies, and a more portable AZGTi on an equatorial wedge with a widefield 61ED Frac or various lenses for use with a astromodified DSLR. SkySafari is used for much of my planning work, but my AP sessions are run by KStars/Ekos/Indi on Raspberry Pis. I sometimes use SkySafari connected to the RPis to monitor the FOV and DSO positioning rather than KStars which doesn't have such rich visuals, but only very occasionally to control a mount.

It will be great when SS7 has more integrated functionality with the Indi infrastructure, and I would be happy to help with your Beta testing programme.

    ##### WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT RC1? #####

Most of you have now had time to try version 1021 RC1 - Release Candidate 1!

We are very close to building what will be the first public release available through the app store.

SS7 does not have to be perfect for the initial release.  But the app should be solid, i.e. no major showstoppers.

When the app goes public we will still release daily updates for bug fixes.

Please take a moment to read & reply to this post linked below:

^^^ Again, please reply in the post linked above.

    Thanks soooooo much!

I‘m a INDI MacOS user who owns and use SkySafari (latest) for iOS and Mac.

As for now I use the INDI middleware driver to control my 10Micron mount with SkySafari while imaging with Ekos.

Please, add me to the beta testing.

Hi, I’d be happy to help with beta testing if still needed. I’ve used SkySafari 6 Plus for a couple of years, most recently with a wifi interface to control a Meade LX200 classic from an iPhone. I use it to plan and conduct visual observing sessions, and keep lists of all the favourite objects I’ve observed so I can easily find them again. I find it extremely helpful while observing.

    ##### SS7 RELEASE NOTES #####

    Today we released version 1023.

THIS IS ALSO RC3 - Release Candidate 3.

If possible, please test telescope control today.

Unless there is a showstopper with telescope control we will go live with this version into the App Store.

We really believe this is our best software launch to date.  And that is all because of you!

After the official public release of 7.0 we are still going to be beta testing the 7.1 release.

So, we will still need your help with the beta testing for the next few weeks.

Thank YOUUUU to everyone for getting us this far!

I'd like to participate in the Beta testing.  I think my use of Sky Safari goes all the way back to v4.  I teach college astronomy and have designed a number of labs and observing projects for my students in which they use Sky Safari and have produced several video tutorials for Sky Safari.  Eventually I'll upgrade my telescope mount so I can control it from my phone, but that may be a ways off yet.  Already have access to the beta version - just need access to the forums.

    What I like:
    -   Visual stargazing
    -   Planets and Jupiter’s moons events
    -   Astrophotography, … still at an early stage
    -   Joining the Beta-testing ;-)

    SkySafari History/Experience:
    -   I have been using SkySafari Pro forever (I think from the very beginning, or at least after the merger with Voyager)…
    -   First on macOS only, then on iOS and now as well on iPadOS 15.1, macOS Monterey and High Sierra.
    -   I usually purchase the plug-ins.

    My mounts:
    -   I have three mounts:  The recent iOptron AZMPro, the very original Celestron CGEM (20 years old), the all new StarGO2 Pro on an Avalon M-Uno
    - The original SkyFi, which is attached to the CGEM.

    Other equipment:
    -   ASIAIR Pro, ASI cameras, EAF, …

    What I like to see/test/have:
    -   INDI and ASCOM interfaces to mounts and other equipment
    -   Plate solving
    -   All-star-polar-alignment
    -   Mount modeler.
    -   Curious what else you have in storage ;-)

Hello! I am on iOS 15.1 on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I have used SkySafari 5, and 6 Pro. I wouldn’t call myself a power user. I am currently setting things up with my celestron c8 and heq5. I have an OAG and guide cam on the way. I normally plug those into a raspberry pi (astroberry) to control and have been using their SkySafari driver to connect. Would be awesome to see how this all hooks up in 7!

BTW, I would appreciative if cross-tracking cookies may remain being disabled for this forum/website, which is the case for most forums these days, like e.g. CloudyNights.

Hi, I was directed here by customer support after reporting a consistent sync bug with SynScanLink + AZ-GTi in SkySafari Pro 6.8.5.2.

In addition, I actively observe with (and have separate SS Pro setups for) the following setups:

    • 16" ServoCat setup driven by a Nexus DSC
    • FTQ and FTX alt-az mounts driven by Nexus-II
    • iOptron AZ Mount Pro
    • AZ-GTi driven by SynScan / SynScan Pro
    • EdgeHD 9.25" Evolution mount
    • Nexstar 5se with SkyPortal Wifi

My goal can largely be summarized to allow the general public to enjoy the night sky. The entire experience should be intuitive, reliable, and fun.

Please consider adding me to the SkySafari 7 beta!

    ##### SS7 RELEASE UPDATE - WE HAVE LIFT-OFF!!! #####

We have received approval from Apple for the first public release of SkySafari 7 Pro.

This is a massive milestone in the journey we have all shared together so far.

Beta testing began a long time ago, back in June of this year.  Initially, we started with only Chris (THANK YOUUUU) asking for his feedback on mockups of the new UI design.

Overtime we asked for more help, and invited, eventually, all of you here to join us on this project.

Whether you started in the beginning or jumped in recently, your passion for the success of SS7 and your contributions offering efficient, laser-like, troubleshooting focus and logic, will all soon be known by the tens of thousands of SkySafari users around the world who fire up the app every clear night to gaze upon the stars above.

The global community is indebted to you.  And we, Simulation Curriculum, are very much so too!

IMPORTANT! For the next 2- 3 weeks you are all still invited to continue beta testing.

We have new features still to come for 7.1 and there will be further troubleshooting and bug-squashing required for sure.

So, with the official release of SS7 please do not immediately abandon the beta testing program.

    Our community still needs you!

    We still need you!

But, if you do decide to drop off here we do very much want to say THANK YOU!

And from all of us - Dave, Ros, Pedro, Mike, Seth, myself, and the rest of the SimCur company, we would like to say THANK YOU for getting us this far!

For those of you active in the SS7 beta testing forum I will be sending a private message shortly ;)

But, please stick around a little longer.

Some highly requested features are finally on the way.
